Walt Disney Pictures was officially founded in 1983, with previous titles being release by "Walt Disney Productions" along with Columbia Pictures. "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" was the first feature length film produced and released by Walt Disney himself in 1937. When "Sleeping Beauty" released in 1959, it was a major flop on Disney's part. It was the last Disney princess movies for 30 years, until the release of "The Little Mermaid" in 1989. During that period of time between the iconic "Sleeping Beauty" and "The Little Mermaid", numerous other famous films were released such as "101 Dalmations" (1961)"The Jungle Book" (1967), and "The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh" (1977). After the Debut, of "The little Mermaid" Disney continued to produce hit movie after hit movie, in the form of the Disney Renaissance. Including: "Beauty and the Beast" (1991), "Aladdin" (1992), "The Lion King" (1993), "Hercules" (1997), and many others up to this day.
